What is a Contemporary Portrait Session?
My favorite sessions are Contemporary Portrait Shoots which gets me a lot of puzzled looks, and people asking me to explain. Which I LOVE! So the question is what is a Contemporary Portrait Session at Bethany Lyn Photography?
Through childhood, and my teen years (and let's be honest, still to this day!) I was obsessed with playing dress up. When my sister would go to the prom I would dress up in all her clothes, I loved shopping and getting new clothes and outfits, styling them together with accessories. Day to day I don’t walk around as the most fashionable person, I really love comfort and convenience. Yet, inside lives the little girl who always wanted a makeover like they did on “What Not to Wear”. Who wanted to feel like a model on a magazine or an actress on the red carpet. So from time to time, I get all dolled up, and I make pretend that I am on the cover of Vanity Fair Magazine. I know I am not the only woman in the world who loves feeling beautiful, transformed, and loves getting dressed up. So I offer this experience to people of all ages, through a Contemporary Portrait Session.
How does it work? Once you have booked your session during a discovery call, you will come to my studio for your Pre-Shoot Consultation. We will discuss in depth how you would like to be photographed, what you would like to wear and who you would like to be photographed with. Each session is custom designed just for you! You’ll leave the consultation with an idea of what outfits to bring and if you want to shop for anything additional.
The day of your photoshoot, when you come back to the studio we will consult with a Professional Hair and Makeup Artist to determine the best looks for you based on your preferences and the style of your photoshoot. This is a great chance to sit and relax, be pampered and enjoy having someone else tend to your needs! Once you are done in Hair and Makeup, it’s time for your close up! I will photograph you in multiple outfits, posed and on multiple sets. Through the whole photoshoot I will guide you through posing and a variety of expressions.
One of the biggest hesitations I hear from women is, “I don't know what I'm doing in front of a camera.’ To be honest that's the best part! You don’t need to, that is what I am there for! I am your eyes and I’ll make sure that you are looking your best. I have spent years studying and learning posing, photography, and retouching so that you can rely on me to create the best image you have ever seen of yourself.
A couple weeks after your session you will come back to the studio, and together we will review the images!! I will have gone through and selected the best of the best. As we review the images you will get to choose which images are your favorite and which ones you can live without. Most clients choose a few images to purchase as wall art for their home, and a collection for an album or image box. The best part is, there is no minimum order, you only purchase the images you love. Some clients spend $600 and some spend $6000, it really is up to you.
A beautiful image of yourself can change the way you feel about yourself. I have had clients come to tears and shout with shock after seeing how stunning they are after years of telling themselves they aren’t photogenic. The experience is amazing, but after your portraits are hung on your walls and you see a portrait of yourself that you love, every single day, is when the transformation really begins. The inner voice that keeps you insecure, is proven wrong again and again. Until the way you see yourself, talk to yourself, and feel about yourself has totally transformed.
