What to wear when you “don’t have anything”? Boudoir Edition

Have you been holding off on scheduling your boudoir session because you just don't have anything to wear? Get your computer ready to send me an email because you already have everything you need!

Planning what to bring to your session may feel complicated, but you don’t have to figure it out alone. At your pre-shoot consultation I will help you identify what makes you feel confident, and sexy so you know what clothes to bring.

To give you a head start here are some of my best tips to planning and packing for your boudoir session!

The best kept secret in your closet is a plain, neutral t-shirt. It can be yours or your partners, either way this simple well-worn shirt can feel Vogue, high fashion, or American sweetheart depending on how we style and light the image! It’s also a great place to start in your session if you’re feeling a little nervous about getting undressed. A t-shirt offers a little more modesty while you get comfortable being in front of the camera.

Next best thing to a t-shirt is an open front layer. By this I mean open front cardigans, button down shirts and jackets! You can add a layer over your favorite set of lingerie. Layers like this add texture and variety to your session without a full outfit change. A chunky knit sweater will soften the feel of an edgy body suit, and a leather jacket will edge up a lace lingerie set.

This isn’t specifically boudoir but I have every boudoir client bring a dress or gown!I love a sparkly gown, or cocktail dress personally. A dress gives us the opportunity to capture another narrative of what sexy is by creating a glamorous portrait. Sexy isn’t all about showing skin. Sometimes it's about showing no skin at all, and in this case it's about what we're showing in your expression.

Without bringing anything I offer clients the opportunity to use a white, or black sheet that I keep In my studio. A simple sheet for that “is she wearing anything?” look that keeps you guessing. It can be coy and playful or tell a vivid story.

What it really comes down to is that boudoir is not about the clothes, or lingerie you're wearing. It’s about your expression and body language. And that you don’t have to prepare for, I will guide you through the whole shoot, how to pose, and emote amazing expressions. When you look at a boudoir image that you really love, take note of how that image makes you feel, what the image is expressing. That is where we start planning your session and the detail that will make your images look and feel most like an expression of you.

If you're still feeling worried about what you have to wear, call your best friends, and sisters; see if anyone has something you can borrow. You don’t need to bring a lot with you, a few favorite options is all it takes to capture a stunning set of images. Can’t wait to see your email, you are so worth celebrating just the way you are!

 Xoxo
